Truth on Earth is a band made up of three sisters Serena, Kiley and Tess. They write 70s style rock songs about major world problems that need attention and sustainable solutions.
Performing History
The girls, who have been performing since they were old enough to stand, began putting on shows at nursing homes, charity events, parties, and other gatherings in their early childhood. Now, fourteen years later, they have played dozens of gigs, including performing as the opening act for Sarah McLachlan at William Shatner’s Hollywood Charity Horse Show. They have also given hundreds of media interviews, radio shows, and media appearances over the years.
One of their most recent songs, titled, " Help, Help Me Now (Chelsea's song)," was written in memory of 17-year-old Chelsea King, who was murdered by a registered sex offender in her hometown of San Diego. Truth on Earth describes their experience with the song. “Our most memorable gig would be when we performed at “Finish Chelsea’s Run” this past March. "Finish Chelsea's Run" was intended as a show of devotion to the memory of Chelsea King, the 17-year-old straight-A student, musician and athlete as a way for the community to "take back" the park where she was murdered by a registered sex offender,” said Kiley.
Over 3,500 people participated in the walk and TOE said it was an honor to perform for so many wonderful folks. The girls also met Kelly King (Chelsea's Mom) after performing. “She is an incredible, inspirational, outstanding, loving, thoughtful, sweet, and strong human being and it brought tears to our eyes when she told us she had heard our song many times before the run,” said Tess.
Music on a Mission
While the girls love writing and performing, the message behind their music is the driving force. They not only have written many songs for specific causes, but also include a Take Action page on their website, listing ways that others can help with these issues. Furthermore, they donate 70% of profits to the causes they support.
“Some of the topics we’ve written about are homelessness, child abuse, starvation, domestic violence, malnutrition, animal abuse, environment & climate change, free thinking, depression, cyber bullying, factory farming, substance abuse and an array of other serious issues,” explains Kiley.
Advice for Young Musicians
The girls' advice for young musicians is to “put forth effort by writing and performing every day and never give up even though you may not receive encouragement from those around you. Map out a list of goals, keep forging ahead and reach for the stars.”
Additionally, Kiley suggests, “It’s also easy to build up a following on the web by networking at places like SoAct.net and Facebook. Our entire fan base, gigs and opportunities that have come our way were all built from scratch as a grassroots campaign without any professional marketing or advertising.”
After two years of performing as Truth on Earth, they now have two CDs available on iTunes and Amazon, and a third one soon to be released in July, 2010. Catch Truth on Earth on their website, YouTube, iTunes, Amazon and Facebook.
